Overview of the 1st Forum

Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE) and the Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corporation (NDF) jointly planned and held the first forum in Iwaki city, Fukushima, in order to disseminate achievements of decommissioning and contaminated water management of 1F and to prevent the society from forgetting the accidents and adverse effects to the local economies due to inappropriate rumors. There were 641 people (including Japanese and overseas experts, local representatives and students) from 15 countries participated in the 1st forum, and discussed about the state-of-the-art decommissioning technologies in Japan and abroad and stakeholder engagement for successful delivery of decommissioning. The 1st forum highlighted the importance of social aspects next to technical approaches, and the communication with the local societies was recognized as essential issue that Japan needs face by learning from overseas knowledge and experience.
